We have a long standing tradition of summer hanging baskets, giving us all a beautiful dash of colour and a sense of pride in our village.
The cost of these baskets are supported by the Community Council however the organisation and maintenance is supported by volunteers. This support is vital to maintain the displays in the village.
This effort has been supported by a long standing group of volunteers, but numbers have started to dwindle due age and life circumstances. We really need new volunteers to help!
The volunteers undertake to be responsible for a week’s watering of the baskets, you are likely to be assigned one or two separate weeks over May – Sept, depending on number of volunteers. Obviously we take your availability into account when making the rota.
The baskets have a water reservoir which needs to be kept topped up. The frequency of the activity is entirely dependent on the weather during your week, if it’s very sunny and windy, this may be every 2nd day, if it’s cloudy and still it may be twice during the week.
We have a purpose-built water trolley which will need to be filled twice (fill up points available) during a round of the 18 baskets. This does require some strength but is perfectly doable for the average person in good health. From experience the process is easily completed in an hour. Full training given.
